I took this picture today and there, between the goats and the vehicles, is a pile of snow and dirt at the edge of the driveway. It's April. That's a bag of road salt in the foreground, and a blue snow shovel just beyond it, so you could say we're not convinced that spring has actually arrived.
Given that there isn't much going on around here outside, at least in the way most people would describe as "spring," I thought I'd get some animal pictures to tide the blog over until something sprouts. (I got some cute videos with our new video camera but haven't yet figured out how to get them to show here. My daughter will show me eventually.)
This is No. 1 rooster. He's currently the boss.
He is in charge of all the hens and this guy, No. 2 rooster:
He's a young blue cochin, complete with feathers on his legs and feet. What he lacks in aggressiveness, he makes up for in cuteness. He has the most pathetic crow I've ever heard.
But you can't hear much rooster crowing lately because right now, it's all turkeys, all the time.
We have three toms and three hens and the toms gobble at every little sound, from a distant ambulance to a mouse clearing its throat. (If I could upload a video you could hear for yourself.) It's nearly constant and nearly deafening. In a good way, of course.
Jasper is always keeping us entertained, of course.
And, since I've already posted this on Facebook, I may as well post it again here: Jasper supervising a recent workout of mine. Not a flattering photo of me or the living room, but, hey, a good photo op outweighs vanity:
(My husband likes to let the goat in the house every now and then. Is that not normal?)
I caught a cute exchange between Lily, the cat, and Lucy, our older goat.
You can't tell, but these aren't actually black-and-white photos. This is our reality right now. :-(
Maybe the next time I post, spring really will be here. It's due to get up to 60 later in the week, but they're also calling for possible snow showers on Thursday. Curiouser and curiouser.
